DESCRIPTION

1966 Triumph TR4A IRS convertible that we recently acquired from Arizona, a hot and dry desert state. This car proudly displays its original British Racing Green paint, which, although thin and faded, has never been repainted. With a black interior, a four-speed overdrive transmission, and IRS (Independent Rear Suspension), this TR4A is a solid project car for those seeking a straightforward and manageable restoration.

The car’s color is appealing, and its overall condition is impressive. It is incredibly solid, with minimal rust and only a need for front floor replacement. The gaps are excellent, and the body is straight, although it does have a few dings, scrapes, and surface rust on the trunk lid. However, this TR4A presents a fantastic opportunity for improvement.

We have a video of the car driving before our purchase, where it was hooked up to a remote fuel can and driven around the yard. Although it will require some work, including brakes and fuel system attention, this car has the potential to run and drive with minimal effort. It has been exposed to the Arizona sunshine, resulting in some surface rust that needs to be addressed.

The interior has suffered from the Arizona sun, with parts falling off and deteriorating carpets. The driver’s side floor needs replacement, but the dashboard and original seats remain intact. The original door panels are in surprisingly good condition, making it possible to salvage some of the original upholstery components if one desires to preserve the car’s survivor status.

Moving to the trunk, we find a mostly intact and unmolested space, complete with a spare tire and a box of spare parts. Some minor rust and bubbling are present along the trunk lid, but overall, it remains in good condition.

Under the hood, we discover an untouched and original engine compartment. A bit of rust caused by battery corrosion is evident, but the front section is clean and straight. The TR4A engine with HS6 carburetors and the correct manifold is still wearing its original paint, further emphasizing the car’s authenticity.

This 1966 Triumph TR4A IRS convertible is a remarkable find. With its original paint, British Racing Green color, black interior, and overdrive, it possesses all the desirable attributes for restoration or improvement. This TR4A has an untouched engine compartment, low mileage (81,000 miles), and a strong market demand. If you’re searching for a solid project car, this TR4A presents an exceptional opportunity to bring it back to its former glory.
